About
Just an engineer
passionate
about making
an impact
I'm Mario — an engineer with one foot in horticulture and the other in space tech. I've built autonomous gantry robots to 3-D scan lettuce, designed & CADed growth chambers for an upcoming Artemis III mission, and wrangled data in Python and MATLAB for insightful discoveries. Whenever I'm not trying to break and dissassemble my household appliances, you can see my playing sports (Volleyball & Pickleball!), learning the latest strategy games, or setting out on extra-long hikes. I thrive where creativity and problem-solving is not expected but needed.

Education & Experience
Field Engineer
Working to create the next best generation of autonomous robots
- Leading field testing operations for autonomous tractors
- Collaborating with software teams to debug perception systems
- Assisting in the development of new autonomous systems
Blue River Technology
Mechatronics Engineering Intern
- Developing autonomous plant segmentation algorithms for Advanced Plant Habitat aboard the ISS by leveraging Python and SciKit-learn libraries to quantify leaf canopy area
- Improved data annotation efficiency by 50% by leveraging batch processing techniques with intention GUI design
- 3D printed and designed growth chambers for an upcoming Artemis III mission using CREO Parametric
NASA: Space Crop Production
Mechatronics Engineer
- Engineered an autonomous gantry system with RGB-Depth cameras, LIDAR, Jetson Nano (CUDA), and ICP point cloud protocol to produce 3D point cloud reconstructions of live lettuce plants
- Developed complex scripts for connecting open-source libraries (Open-3D, NeRF Studio) to create 3D reconstructions of lettuce plants
- Constructed a carbon dioxide control system for the growth chamber by designing a deadband controller
University of Florida, Correll Laboratory
Controlled Environment Engineer
- Developed portable mini-controlled environments for precise environmental control using Campbell Scientific dataloggers.
- Reduced manual labor by 20% at a commercial greenhouse by engineering an auto-misting bay.
- 10,000+ plants propagated in these machines for the past 3 years, supporting high-level research.
